Origami and kids

The origami or origami is an art of Japanese origin, which consists of folding paper without using scissors or glue to obtain figures of various shapes, many of which could be considered as paper sculptures.
This is also a great help in education. It develops great benefits and great qualities both to students and to anyone who does it.

Some of its benefits are:
Develop manual dexterity, accuracy and precision, in addition to attention and concentration.
Create spaces of personal motivation to develop creativity.
Develop the creative capacity of each student.
Provide moments of relaxation and distraction.
Strengthening self-esteem through the development of their own creations.

Ideally, they should start at an early age, and exercising the movement of the fingers of both hands is really a basis for bilateral development of the brain and the advancement of intellectual development. The work of coordination of both hands, the active work of intelligence and attention is necessary in the development and use of origami because it needs memory, imagination and thought. As hands are actively wrapped in work, there is a natural massage at the fingertips in healthy turns, affecting the dynamic balance of the arousal processes in the cerebral cortex, braking in the cortical areas of the brain.
This technique will serve as support in the integral formation of the professional, acquiring new ways of communicating with others, and implicitly creating an environment that allows him to interact with a specific population.

On the other hand, it has been proven that the origami helps psychic and psychological problems, since being concentrated doing a manual activity helps the relief. Its purpose is to move the patient away from his obsessions and fears.

In some Israeli universities, studies are carried out with students with attention deficit who are strongly stimulated through the paper folding mechanism. At the Carlos Holmes Trujillo Hospital in Cali, this art has been used for some years in the treatment of children with emotional problems such as attention difficulties, expression and hyperactivity.

Origami used as a tool or as a therapy, in a session, feelings and knowledge are shared, helps to solve problems. We experience a non-verbal communication, a setting of goals or objectives, an opportunity for a non-threatening approach, psychological support (leading to the feeling of acceptance when taking time to demonstrate the positive), an opportunity to enjoy and relax.
